KEEN Inc., a leader in hybrid outdoor performance products, including footwear, socks and bags, recently named Winter Wildlands Alliance as a Hybrid.Careâ„¢ partner. WWA is the first and only national nonprofit organization promoting and preserving winter wildlands and quality human-powered snowsports experiences on public lands. Specifically, KEEN will focus on the organization's SnowSchool Program, which introduces more than 35,000 elementary school students to their winter environments and the fun of snowshoeing each year, via cash funding for school sites and by supplying winter insulated footwear to keep kids comfortable in the outdoors.

“KEEN considers the outdoors to be anyplace without a ceiling. The solitude and beauty of the wilderness in the wintertime is especially revered by our employees and our community of customers that long to connect to the outdoors,” says Linda Tom, Cause Manager of KEEN. “That's why we are pleased to support the work of Winter Wildlands Alliance through our Hybrid.Care corporate giving program.”

Mark Menlove of Winter Wildlands Alliance, adds, “We are dedicated to ensuring a safe, quiet and tranquil experience for every winter wildlands adventurer, now and always. We are grateful for the support of KEEN Hybrid.Care to further our mission to defend the solitude offered by the precious snowscapes found on our public lands.”

Work of Winter Wildlands Alliance

Formed in February 2000 and based in Boise, Idaho, WWA works on behalf of snowshoers, skiers, snowboarders, winter hikers, and other outdoor adventurers, addressing national issues that impact winter wildlands.

The organization believes winter wildland adventurers and future generations should have sizable areas of public land on which to experience the natural sights, sounds, and winter beauty of public lands free of motorized vehicles. The organization advocates to protect backcountry wildlife habitat from the negative impacts of motorized intrusion such as snowmobiles.

WWA is the proud coordinator of the national SnowSchool program that currently operates at 48 sites in 15 states and provinces, from New Hampshire to Washington. The program exposes youth from a variety of backgrounds to snowshoeing and winter ecology. Many of these would not have the opportunity to experience those activities outside of a SnowSchool field trip. In fact, WWA year-end surveys indicate that 64 percent of SnowSchool participants have never been on snowshoes before their SnowSchool experience and that most intend to snowshoe again.

About Hybrid.Care
The creation of Hybrid.Care (originally named the KEEN Foundation) was as sudden as the devastating tsunami that inspired it. Immediately following the disaster, KEEN decided to pull $1 million dollars allocated for an upcoming advertising campaign, including scrapping creative and retracting most of its media buy, in order to provide additional support to AmeriCares and other non-profit organizations providing aid to the victims of the disaster. Without debate or hesitation, everyone in the company quickly rallied behind the idea and signed off on the decision. This was a bold move for a company less than two years old, and one that set the course for the KEEN corporate philosophy of giving.

Hybrid.Care Partners

Since 2004, KEEN has partnered with over 19 global environmental, conservation and social non-profit organizations and has distributed more than $1.8 million. With limited resources and widely different goals, Hybrid.Care partners have promoted change through community, education and understanding. What these organizations share is a philosophy of caring, conscience and sustainability. What they've already given back is invaluable.
