Still a relative youngster in the U.S. market, Italian footwear manufacturer Kayland® is taking the performance outdoor footwear industry by storm with the introduction of unique and cutting edge technologies. The company's new Performance Ergonomic Fit System was developed to ensure that all the key components of each shoe or boot complement each other and work in concert to achieve the most comfortable performance fit possible. The components, including insoles, lasts, heel holds and lacing systems, are made of the highest quality materials with the most technically advanced systems on the market. Highlights from the 2007 collection include footwear for mountaineering, backpacking, light hiking, approach, and multisport use. There are even some “city outdoor” shoes in the mix.

“A big part of Kayland's reputation has always related to its use of innovative materials and technologies. Beginning with the 2007 collection, I expect this reputation to be further enhanced as a result of the collaboration with, and support of Kayland's parent company, Novation S.p.A., an OEM to the sporting goods industry for over 30 years,” explained Brent Merriam, Vice President, Novation North America. “For example, Kayland's new Engineered Composite Technology insoles and molded heel counters are a direct result of Novation's OEM experiences and its ongoing pursuit of new technologies that can be applied to outdoor products to achieve better performance.”

Like any successful system Kayland's Performance Ergonomic Fit System takes a holistic approach to building a boot or shoe. By ensuring that all of the products' components complement each other, Kayland is providing the most comfortable, highest performing shoe on the market. The system combines:

Engineered Composite Technology (ECT) Insoles: ECT insoles have been designed to provide ergonomically appropriate flex and stability throughout the insole. The forefoot provides spring for better push-off, while the heel and arch areas offer improved support and torsional stability. Four specific engineered composites for specific mountain use include Ice, Rock, Trek and Trail.

Heel Hold Systems: Kayland combines time-tested lasts; careful placement and design of padding that conforms to the natural curves of the heel and ankle; and its Ankle Lock System to achieve an extremely secure heel hold.

Molded Heel Counter: Available on select Apex and Prestige models, the new molded heel counter provides enhanced support, control and comfort.

Lacing Systems: Kayland uses a range of lacing systems, carefully developed to promote comfort and performance. The new Lace Lock System, allows the wearer to cinch laces to the desired tightness over the forefoot, automatically locking the lace in place, and allowing the wearer to tighten the laces around the ankle and shin, without losing the tightness over the forefoot. The asymmetric Contact Lacing System mimics the natural shape of the foot with free-floating lace points along the length of the lacing zone that allow the upper to contour more precisely to each individual's foot.

Ergonomic Lasts: By soliciting and using feedback from athletes and mountaineers for over 40 years, Kayland has developed a range of lasts to ensure optimal combination of fit and performance for specific uses.

Materials: Kayland partners with the world's leading materials providers, including Dyneema®, Dryver®, Event®, Primaloft®, Schoeller®, and Vibram®.
