HAMPTON, NH, August 8, 2008 – Kayland, an Italian manufacturer of high performance mountaineering, backpacking, hiking, and multi-sport footwear will be offering a versatile low-cut line in spring and summer 2009 with its new multiactivity category. Also new for 2009 are three new hiking boots including the Vertigo Light, a light hiker based on Kayland's award-winning Vertigo High backpacking boot.

“The multiactivity line is important for us, since it is where much of the industry's business is done,” explains Brent Merriam, vice president of Novation North America, Inc., the US subsidiary of Kayland's parent company, Novation S.p.A. “The category has a distinct Kayland flavor and fit, and provides our loyal dealer base with a broader Kayland offering at these important price points.”

Multiactivity - A Line For All Reasons
The multiactivity line targets a more general purpose category, representing versatile footwear the general outdoor consumer uses more frequently. It will be suitable for a variety of uses including, light hiking, walking, approach, low grade climbing, trail running, travel and casual outdoor. This category will complement the hiking, backpacking, mountaineering and extreme lines, all of which are developed for a specific purpose. Seven shoes are included in this new line.

The Legend Leather Titor is a street shoe with chutzpah, sporting a Vibram® Mars outsole -- very light but beefy enough to go anywhere. Small hexagon shaped lugs provide maximum traction. Designed with a European flair, it features a rich Nubuk upper, with extended lacing to provide a precise fit right down to the toe. Available in mud in M's 8 - 13, the MSRP is $139.95

The Legend Trail Leather is a playful casual outdoor shoe. With color and slip-on styling at home in a European beach resort, the shoe also performs for light hiking. It features a micro shell, Nubuk and Lycra® upper and a cushioning Kayland Surefly Sole with excellent traction and a self cleaning lug design. Available in Sand in M's 8 – 13, the MSRP is $109.95.

The Legend and Legend W's feature a grippy Vibram® Mars outsole with a breathable suede/textile upper upper. The slip-on construction allows you to loosen the laces and kick-back nice and casual, or cinch up the laces and hit the trail. Available in Havana/Bronze for men and Olive for women, the MSRP is $99.95.

New and improved for 2009 are the Crux Grip and the Crux Grip W's, approach shoes designed for charging low grade climbs and technical approaches with confidence. The lacing extends the full length of the foot to ensure a precise fit, and the multi-layer EVA midsole ensures comfort and shock absorption. The new Vibram® Friction outsole provides sure footing on technical terrain. Available in Olive and Blue for men and Desert for women, the MSRP is $119.95.

The Dragonfly eVent also returns as the final entry in the multiactivity category. A technical trail runner built for speed, stability, and comfort it comes equipped with eVent fabric for battling the elements. The shoe is packed with performance features such as the ultralight mesh/microfiber upper; gusseted tongue; abrasion resistant patches in high-wear areas; asymmetrical lacing system that mimics the natural foot shape; an integrated Heel Lock System; an overmolded TPU support structure; and the new Kayland Surefly Sole offering excellent grip, a precise fit and superior shock absorption. Available in Black, the MSRP is$119.95.

Kayland's line of light hikers is lightweight boots that can go where most light hikers dare not tread. They offer more protection, durability and performance than most boots in this category despite the streamlined appearance.

Headlining the expansion of the light hiking line is the Vertigo Light. The new Vertigo Light takes the concept of light-weight hiking performance to a new level. Based on the same last as Kayland's award-winning Vertigo High, the Vertigo Light weighs in at a mere 1080 grams per pair in a US Men's 9. The upper is constructed of a breathable, abrasion resistant textile, with an Action Leather™ rand for added durability and support. The eVent® Cocona® lining provides maximum waterproof, breathability, odor control, and quick drying capabilities, letting sweat escape up to twice as fast as common waterproof breathables.

The Vibram®Mars outsole and exclusive EVA midsole provide sure grip, cushioning, and support for a variety of terrain. Extended lacing accommodates a precise fit right down to the toe area. Available in Bronze/Havana for men and Grey/Ice for women, the MSRP is $174.95.

Another new offering in the light hiking category is the Zephyr, featuring the Kayland Overinjected System (K.O.S.), which combines lightweight, breathable, abrasion resistant upper fabrics, overinjected with a supportive, protective, ergonomic PU exoskeleton. The result is reduced weight and enhanced structural support. Also based on the same last as the award winning Vertigo High, the Zephyr boasts an eVent Cocona lining, a Vibram®Mars sole and extended lacing. Available in Sand for men and Sky for women, the MSRP is $189.95.

The Spark and Spark Women's offer all the features and styling of the Zephyr in a mid-cut version. Available in Mud for men and Light Grey for women, the MSRP is $164.95.

Once again the popular Convert and Convert Women's will be offered. The stylish, high-performance boots feature a durable suede upper, waterproof protection from eVent® that “lets the sweat out”, and the new Kayland Active Sole. The boot's Convert Lacing System combines an anatomical, asymmetrical, extended lacing for precise adjustability all the way to the toe; free-floating lace points for optimal conformability of the upper; and an ankle lock system to hold the heel in place. The Convert Women's features true women's specific lasting. Available in Vintage Brown for men and Grey/Sky for women, the MSRP is $199.95.
