Highgear has been named the exclusive training piece of the North American Adventure Racing Series (NAARS). NAARS is a premiere international adventure racing (AR) series which hold races all across North and Central America. The partnership between these adventurous companies will provide the series with training pieces for elite AR athletes as well as prizes for winning teams in NAARS races.
American Adventure Sports was founded in 1997 with the idea to create events and provide products that cultivate a passion for nature and activity. Since then, thousands of individuals have participated in AR events as a way to learn, grow and improve their lives through sport. American Adventure Sports first expanded its offerings in 2009 by opening a retail location in Indiana, PA to provide the tough-wearing outdoor and adventure gear needed by AR participants. The company continued to grow and moved to Greensburg, PA in 2012 where it also now houses a fully functioning in-house video production branch, supports a partnership with local universities, and operates an online store that provides top-of-the-line adventure racing and outdoor gear.
“Proper conditioning and training can make or break an Adventure Racer’s entire season,” said Doug Crytzer, Owner and Founder of American Adventure Sports, “which is why we’re thrilled to be able to offer our athletes some of the latest technology in training gear out there.”
The NAARS Coalition, consisting of dozens of race directors across the continent, is dedicated to creating synergy and positivity within the AR sport and providing opportunities for athletes and sponsors. As a part of that effort, Highgear will act as an in-kind sponsor, providing Axio HR altimeters for the winners of the NAARS Prime and Prestige level events and Alti-XTss high-altitude watches for athletes on the NAARS endorsed AR team, TeamSOG.
As American Adventure Sports continues to expand its retail operations, a range of Highgear products will be available at its current retail location in Greensburg and on its ecommerce site.

Highgear was born in the Blue Ridge Mountains in 1999, when outdoor enthusiast Mike Hosey had a vision to create his own unique line of compact and affordable outdoor navigational tools. Aiming to enhance our customers' experience of the natural world, Highgear evolved significantly in 2001. Watches, hand-held navigational devices and fitness monitors were added to the product base, while infusing the entire line with top notch design. At Highgear we are passionate about the outdoors. We spend our time skiing Sugar Mountain, biking Bent Creek, hiking Pisgah National Forest, and paddling the French Broad River. This is where we field test our products. We measure durability, accuracy, and reliability, and then spend hours brainstorming how to make improvements on intuitiveness, design and function. The result is a line of high-performance tools that make outdoor adventure easier and more fun. Our mission goes beyond simply providing a great product at a fair price. We are in business because when we look out the window, we see an extraordinary playground just waiting to be explored. We believe our enthusiasm and commitment is communicated through our products, and our blend of technology and design provides you with the very best "tools for adventure."
