BOULDER, Colo. (August 30, 2010) – Descente and coldblack® sponsored athlete, Paul Ambrose took first place this past Sunday at the Louisville, Kentucky Iron Man, a 140.6 mile race. Ambrose finished with a final time of 8:29:59, followed by Martin Jensen of Denmark with a final time of 8:41.54.

After exiting the water about three minutes behind swim leader John Flanagan, Ambrose gradually took control of the race thanks to the day’s fastest bike split that put him over 12 minutes ahead of Jensen. Ambrose’s win was accredited to this commanding lead in the 112 mile bike ride, which he finished with a 4:31:36 split.

Ambrose could have had a much faster time, but he took some time to relish the moment with high-fives with fans in the winning distance. It was his first Ironman victory and his 5th race of the season.

“I’m very happy to take my first Ironman Victory in Louisville, Kentucky. I've had many frustrating races where I've been out in front all day and then passed at the end. This was really enjoyable being able to stay out in front, and not been "caught" for a change. Also, it has been a goal of mine for some time to win an Ironman title, so I'm very glad to be able to achieve it at a young age,” said 26 year-old Ambrose.

Ambrose was wearing his coldblack® equipped Avanti kit from Descente that provides a UPF of 50. coldblack® reflects UVA and UVB rays, meaning both heat and light rays, keeping the wearer tangibly cooler by 9 to 15 degrees. coldblack® has also been proven to reduce perspiration by half and therefore the skin doesn’t have to compensate so much for increased skin temperatures. This is an advantage on long days and big races as a fluid loss of 2% of body weight due to sweating reduces performance by up to 20%.
