Global Compass Series and Mobile Application to Launch in August 2014

(Boulder, CO) January 22, 2014 — Drawing upon the pioneering spirit of founder D.W. Brunton, who created the world-famous Pocket Transit in 1894, equipment brand Brunton expands its compass category with a new series, TruArc™. The TruArc™ Collection debuts six new compass models fit for all experience levels, from entry-level scouting to backcountry adventures. All models in the collection are equipped with Brunton’s specially magnetized TruArc™ Global Needle system and tool-less declination adjustment settings to ensure compatible use worldwide. Select models in the collection, the TruArc™ 10, TruArc™ 15 and TruArc™ 20, also feature a professional-grade, rare earth magnet in place of an electrically magnetized steel needle, allowing these compasses to resist interference and maintain polarity over time. To further enhance the use of the line of compasses, Brunton will debut the TruArc™ compass application, available for Apple devices. Ranging in price from $10.00 to $79.00, the TruArc™ Collection will launch in August 2014 at specialty outdoor retailers and www.brunton.com.

TRUARC™ COMPASS COLLECTION HIGHLIGHTS

TruArc™ 20— The TruArc™ 20 is a modified upgrade to Brunton’s original 8099 compass. Ever-North magnets resist interference and will not lose polarity. A triple clinometers system and tool-less declination adjustment, combined with a protective cover and foot, make the device suitable for backcountry use. Additional features include: a map magnifier, a sighting mirror, a bubble level and magnified readout. MSRP $79.00

TruArc™ 15— Borrowing design cues from the Brunton classic 15TDCL compass, the TruArc™ 15 is upgraded with a full coverage mirror cover for extra protection and Ever-North magnets for the most precise measurements. A luminous, high-visibility cling lends low light and night time performance. A triple clinometers system provides fast and accurate reference information for avalanche safety or earth-science field work. MSRP $49.00

TruArc™ 10— With quick reference cardinal points, high visibility clings for low light performance and global balance with an Ever-North magnet, the TruArc™ 10 is perfect for fast paced adventure racing where critical navigation is needed in an instant. Additional features include: a reversible slide scale, GPS confidence circles, roamer scales and a magnified readout. MSRP $39.00

TruArc™ 7— The TruArc™ 7 is a mirrored compass that features an inclinometer for measuring apparent tree heights and gauging avalanche danger. This model can also be used as a sighting tool for more accurate headings. MSRP $25.00

TruArc™ 5— With additional map grid lines for quick orientation and a magnifier for easy reading, the TruArc™ 5 is an ideal mapping compass that will keep you on course anywhere in the world. The TruArc™ 5 also features a two degree resolution and metric and standard scales. MSRP $20.00

TruArc™ 3— A classic scouting compass with modern updates, the TruArc™ 3 includes a two degree resolution and metric and standard scales. MSRP $10.00

TruArc™ App— The TruArc™ compass application functions like the classic instrument, allowing users to navigate and record measurements through an iPhone. Within the TruArc™ application, Brunton offers a “Compass School” feature to help beginners learn key navigation techniques, including: setting a safety bearing, magnetic declination and finding true North. The application also offers an option to link to social media accounts, allowing users to share hikes, suggested trail routes and personal adventures with friends.
