ARP specialty brands reorganize as Boulder Outdoor Specialty Group

BOULDER, COLORADO (December 15, 2008) – The specialty brands of American Recreation Products, Inc. – six of the best known and best loved brands in the outdoor world – are reorganizing into a collaborative, cohesive Boulder Outdoor Specialty Group.

Already gathered in the quintessential environment for outdoor innovation, the Boulder-based collection of Kelty, Kelty K.I.D.S.,Sierra Designs, Ultimate Direction,Slumberjack and Wenger are now better positioned to grow and succeed, both as individual brands as well as a group.

Leading the Boulder Group will be Kenny Ballard, named president this week as part of the reorganization. Formerly the president of Kelty, Ballard's rich outdoor industry experience provides both creativity and continuity.

“We have remarkable opportunities within the Boulder Group. Our brands reflect a unique blend of heritage, and dedication to innovation and value. As we accomplish our goals, we are keenly focused on preserving the integrity and capability of each individual brand within our family,” said Ballard.

Innovation will be the first direct benefit of the new Boulder Group structure. Through improved connectivity to each other as well as their customers, the Boulder Group is better positioned to improve the performance, quality and value of all its brands' offerings.

Leading product innovation will be Russell Rowell, Director of Product (Equipment) Development. Rowell will oversee all equipment design and development in the Boulder Group, honing the product incubation process while maintaining an essential differentiation between brands.

In apparel, Melodie Miller, Director of Product (Apparel) Development, will continue to innovate with the Sierra Designs apparel line as well as overseeing specific apparel initiatives throughout the group. Able to share intelligence with a broad range of ARP brands, Miller and the apparel team will directly benefit from the group's increased capabilities.

Providing a major positive impact, a new dedicated sales force wholly committed to Boulder Group brands will be working closely with an experienced internal team. Led by Sales Directors Jason McGibbon and Peter Novak, as well as Sales Manager Josh LeBaron, the new sales structure will amplify the Boulder Group's effectiveness and service levels.

Building on that commitment to service, Alison Snider, as Customer Service Manager, will be in charge of dealer services and warranty/repair for all Boulder Group brands. Snider's group role will enhance the flow and use of best practices within the data system, fulfillment and with service policies. And Jonathan Hinrichs, as Finance and Operations Manager, will oversee inventory management, financial reporting and analysis, facility operations and international liaison.

“As a group, our passion is to improve the outdoor experience, to enhance the enjoyment of the outdoor experience, and to enable new outdoor consumers with passions of their own,” Ballard added.
