Fremont, Calif., (May 23, 2011) – The revolutionary training and rehabilitation company AlterG today announced its hiring of OutsidePR as its agency of record.
AlterG products are used by athletes such as Paula Radcliffe, Dathan Ritzenheim, Kara Goucher and Shannon Rowbury -- and that's only in the running realm. Scores of athletic teams -- from Manchester United to the Dallas Cowboys; from the Miami Heat to the University of Michigan -- use the company's patented, NASA-developed technology. In all, twenty NBA teams, eight NFL teams and three Major League Baseball franchises use AlterG to rehabilitate their athletes from injuries.
"The use of AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmills by top athletes is interesting," notes OutsidePR president Gordon Wright, "But the most compelling thing about their products is the huge ramifications for the elderly and the obese. My mother died in late 2010 from complications of pulmonary disease, and I saw the cascading effects that a life of inactivity can cause. So, it's a completely unique company in serving not only world-class athletes, but also those who need a safe environment to regain or retain mobility.â€
The technology behind the AlterG line of Anti-Gravity Treadmills was first created in the early 1990s by Stanford graduate engineering student and future NASA scientist Robert Whalen in order to simulate the planetary effects of gravity in space. Years later, Whalen's son, Sean, leveraged the technology for his own Stanford engineering studies and licensed the patent from his father.
AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmills work by generating a powerful lifting force, using Differential Air Pressure technology (DAP). The units relieve as much as 80% of the body weight of its users, allowing non-mobile elderly, the obese, and those recovering from injuries, neurological conditions or surgery to rehabilitate safely.
For athletes, the process is no less profound. Injuries to the lower body are no longer limited to exercises in the pool. Instead, they can use the AlterG to resume their regular running stride and intensity without the danger of bearing weight on their injured legs.
As Amby Burfoot, Editor at Large for Runner's World, says, "The AlterG is the most significant advance in training equipment for runners in the last half century."
Gabriel Griego, the Vice President of Marketing for the Fremont-based company, says, "We've had our eye on OutsidePR for some time, and have been really impressed with the range and creativity of ideas they've brought to us. We anticipate their bringing solid consumer awareness and energy to our products throughout 2011 and into 2012 while still maintaining our growing strength in the senior care and rehabilitation markets."
