Thule has issued a voluntary recall for the three models in its newly introduced strap rack line: The Backpack, Speedway, Freeway models. On the Backpack and Speedway models, pressure-fitted end-caps on the bike arms may not be sufficiently tight to keep the bike cradles in place. Thule is supplying retailers with new screw-in end caps to replace the pressure-fitted ones. On the Freeway and Speedway models, the positioning spring pin that sets into the hub can slip in some positions if the rack is overstressed. To fix this, Thule is replacing all Speedway and Freeway units at no charge. Dealers need only send back the bike arms at Thule's expense and discard the rest of the rack. A dedicated customer service number has been set up to assist dealers and consumers -- 800-848-5391. SNEWS® View: No recall is good news, but Thule is exhibiting exceptional class and poise that will win the company major goodwill points with retailers and consumers. Company President Fred Clark is to be commended for guiding the company in what can only be viewed as an aggressively proactive approach designed to protect his company's reputation as well as protect the consumer and the company's retailers.
