Vancouver, B.C. — Volcanxx, a new temperature regulating shirt made with active volcanic sand, is now live on Kickstarter. Created by the former product designer behind DU/ER Denim and Modrobes, Volcanxx shirts are made from a temperature regulating fabric that cools the body in hot temperatures and warms the body in cold temperatures. This launch is your chance to pre-order at a discount before anyone else.
“We took the power of volcanoes and put it into an everyday performance shirt that helps regulate your temperature when you are hot or cold. This is a revolutionary fabric that is about to change the way that we think about clothing. We want to develop clothing that adapts to your body and the environment,” described Steven Sal Debus, founder of Modernature and the Volcanxx line of garments.
Twenty years of fabric development have gone into creating the all-season performance and comfort delivered by a Volcanxx shirt. Active volcanic sand particles are embedded into the fabric. They then react to infrared heat signals from the body in order to disperse heat when one starts to overheat or reflect heat when one is cold. This process helps maintain a comfortable temperature longer than other wicking fabrics.
Multiple lab tests have been conducted on volcanic sand particles in next to skin fabrics, tailored clothing, insulated jackets and footwear at the University of Colorado Boulder, the Munich-based lab Inside Climate and product testing company Mesh01. The overall evidence from these experiments is that products with volcanic sand technology increase comfort and performance between 10 to 30 percent.
“We recognize that using sustainable materials, creating a long lasting design, and supporting local manufacturing in North America just makes sense. And it's essential to our success, but so are you,” Sal Debus added. “The Volcanxx t-shirt is the first garment we want to make, but we would like to make a full line of adaptable clothing, which is why we need support now with Kickstarter.”
