Utah company unveils gas-based insulation for outerwear

New Technology Uses Argon Gas to Create Insulation with Adjustable Warmth

Klymit, an innovator in outdoor technology, introduces the next generation in warmth – Klymit NobleTek insulation. This breakthrough system uses flexible, gastight yet breathable chambers filled with gas instead of down or fabric. Klymit NobleTek is the only technology on the market that gives outdoor enthusiasts the power to Kontrol the ElementsTM and adjust their level of warmth with the turn of a dial. This cutting-edge technology is set to revolutionize the outdoor industry, providing insulation that is not only adjustable, but warmer, thinner and lighter-weight than other insulators.

Klymit's noble-gas-based system allows users to increase or decrease warmth on demand, unlike fiber and other types of insulation which cannot change when temperatures vary. This is a major performance advantage, considering the average temperature fluctuation on a winter day is 30OF, without factoring in altitude and body temperature changes due to exercise. The Klymit system can be used in a variety of outdoor products and sporting goods, such as camping pads, gloves, ski boots, jackets, vests, ski pants and sleeping bags. Klymit is already developing products with strategic branded OEM partnerships in the outdoor and sporting goods industry.

“Klymit NobleTek insulation is like putting a thermostat in your jacket or sleeping bag. It virtually eliminates the need to dress in layers,” says Nate Alder, CEO of Klymit.

Klymit NobleTek Insulation is warmer and lighter-weight than fabric insulators because it uses Argon gas, which is better at trapping warmth, is weightless, and retains its loft when inflated. It also stays warm when wet, is windproof and eco-friendly. The gases used by Klymit are non-toxic, non-flammable and completely safe for both the user and the environment. Klymit NobleTek Insulation is also less bulky than other insulators. It is paper- thin, only 15mm (less than half an inch) when fully inflated, and collapses to less than 1mm when deflated. This makes clothing easy to move around in when inflated, and easy to pack into small spaces for camping, hiking and storage when the gas is removed. It is heat-welded and can be built to be puncture-proof to prevent leaks. Klymit NobleTek Insulation is just as effective at keeping things cold: It can be used to create collapsible, lightweight hydration packs and coolers as well as warmth in boots and dexterity in gloves.

Klymit continues to create new technologies, including a new multi-layer weaving technique called MonoWeave. This technology allows the pieces to be woven at the same time as the fabric, creating a product which has endless opportunities and applications in the outdoor industry.
