Ultimate Direction & Monte Rosa Skymarathon Partner for Their First Cupless Race, Reusable Ultimate Direction Re-Cup to be provided to each racer

Boulder, Colorado (June 12, 2019) – Ultimate Direction, manufacturer of hydration products and accessories for runners, is a second-year sponsor of the race that started the skyrunning movement: The Monte Rosa Skymarathon. For the first time this year the event is completely cupless and each racer will be given a reusable Ultimate Direction Re-Cup to use for Monte Rosa and events in the future.

The Re-Cup is a bright glacier blue color that stands out when reaching for it in your pocket, running vest, or belt. It’s fully collapsible when not in use so athletes can stash it after leaving an aid station.

“We love mountains so we won't leave any trace,” said Lauri Van Houten, Monte Rosa Skymarathon Race Director. “We are so excited to partner with Ultimate Direction to offer the reusable Re-Cups to athletes in their race bags and we stand firm behind a new race rule: ‘no plastic on the course!’”

The Monte Rosa Skymarathon debuted in 1993 with a handful of certified mountain guides who raced from the village of Alagna Valsesia to the summit of Monte Rosa and back. The race was reestablished last year after being dormant for 25. Some of the world’s best runners participated in 2018 with Kilian Jornet and Emelie Forsberg winning the mixed team division title. The 2018 relaunch saw 300 world class athletes from 23 countries retrace the original course to the summit of Monte Rosa.

The Monte Rosa Skymarathon will be held on Saturday June 22, 2019. Teams of two will race run the Skymarathon which includes a glacier crossing before touching the summit of Monte Rosa at over 14,000 feet.
