SEATTLE, Wash. (January 17, 2019)(MSR) and the MSR Impact Project are excited to announce Adventures for Impact trip dates and destinations for 2019. The company will take travelers on trips in Kenya and Tanzania to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, and in Nepal for an off-the-beaten-path trek of the Western Himalayas. Travelers to all destinations will participate in MSR’s safe water projects, improving access to safe drinking water for hundreds of families during each trip.

“Many of the world’s best destinations sit squarely in regions where access to safe water is still a daily struggle,” says Patrick Diller, MSR Global Health. “What if your adventure could change that? Through MSR’s Adventures for Impact, each trip combines a spectacular adventure with safe water projects in local communities—fusing two passions into the experience of a lifetime.”

MSR’s Adventures for Impact take travelers to international destinations where MSR Global Health is improving lives through safe drinking water projects. These curated trips combine a spectacular adventure with the opportunity to provide long-term solutions to safe water access in local communities. Participants fundraise for water and sanitation projects prior to departure, and then take part in the implementation of those projects on the ground.

The first trip, a climb to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro, will take place September 22 – October 2 and will be led by MSR athlete ambassador and world-class alpinist Mike Chambers. Travelers will spend two unforgettable days with the students of Flying Kites Academy, where they’ll participate in safe water projects at local schools and help provide the drinking water students need to learn and thrive. Inspired by these connections, the group will then head to Kilimanjaro National Park for the ascent to the summit, climbing the mountain’s nontechnical Machame Route over the course of six days.

The second trip, a remote trek in the Western Himalayas, will take place October 7 – 20 and follows an off-the-beaten-path journey through lush forests experienced by less than 1% of Nepal travelers. The trek ascends a 900-foot zigzag path alongside Nepal’s largest waterfall, visits the beautiful turquoise Shey Phoksumdo Lake, and makes stops in communities where travelers will hand-deliver water treatment devices and train families to create their own safe drinking water.

100% of trip ticket prices support in-country tourism and local guides, and 100% of the money fundraised for the MSR Impact Project supports MSR Global Health’s safe water projects. Each trip has 12 total spots available, and tickets for the Kilimanjaro and Nepal trips are $3,155 and $2,950, respectively.

All Adventures for Impact trips include a fundraising goal to raise money for the MSR Impact Project, a nonprofit fund established by MSR in June of 2018 to accelerate access to safe water and hygiene for people in need, efforts that advance global health and improve quality of life around the world. Travelers are required to fundraise a minimum of $1,000 for the MSR Impact Project prior to departure.
