Thule SMART System to Enhance the RV Experience

A new system for recreational vehicles that lets users easily attach lifestyle accessories such as countertops and LCD screens to the exterior of a vehicle has been introduced by Thule, the world leader in sport utility transportation.

November 27, 2006; Seymour, CT- A new system for recreational vehicles that lets users easily attach lifestyle accessories such as countertops and LCD screens to the exterior of a vehicle has been introduced by Thule, the world leader in sport utility transportation. Owners of SMART RVs, which are schedule to be introduced by a number of leading RV manufacturers this spring, can attach the items without using tools, helping them customize the exterior of their vehicle and set up faster, the company said.

The patented SMART (Space Management and Recreational Travel) system uses technology from Thule's industry leading rack systems to quickly and easily mount and remove accessories from the exterior of a SMART RV. In conjunction with leading RV manufacturers, such as Dutchmen, CrossRoads RV, and Thor California, who are introducing SMART RV models for Spring 2007, Thule will launch the SMART system at the Recreational Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) Show in Louisville, KY, November 28-30, 2006 (Booth W95! ).

“While the inside of the modern RV has all of the creature comforts of home, most RV users spend the majority of their time outside the vehicle in elaborate outdoor living areas that they set-up,” said Chris Dannewitz, Thule VP of Business Development. “A SMART RV recognizes how consumes are actually using their recreation vehicles, allowing travelers to create a more functional outdoor living area that they can set-up faster, leaving more time to enjoy their destination.”

SMART RVs have a modified wall structure to hold each of the factory installed Thule SMART Anchor PODS that are strategically placed around the exterior of the vehicle. The Anchor PODS provide a stable and versatile platform to which Thule SMART accessories can be quickly and easily snapped on to. At RVIA Thule will be introducing a number of SMART accessories, such as a cargo box and bike carrier for the rear of the RV, a table and chairs, countertop, and LCD TV mount for the side of the RV.

“Thule's new SMART system is going to dramatically enhance the RV experience for our consumers,” said Richard Riegel, Group President of Thor Industries, Inc, the world's largest RV manufacturer and one of Thule's select SMART RV partners. “Our industry has long focused on the RV's interior, while the Thule SMART system turns this principle inside out and creates a new category with almost endless! possibilities. Thor and its companies are pleased to have helped lead this innovative development effort.”

Thule is also introducing a number of RV soft good accessories, for use inside and outside the RV to help organize gear and maximize space. These accessories can be used with any RV, though they were designed for use with Thule SMART accessories. Included in the line of soft goods accessories are a table caddy to organize plates and utensils, a countertop organizer for cooking and cleaning supplies, a toiletry kit, and a number of soft-sided collapsible gear storage and transportation bins and boxes.

The Thule SMART accessories and RV soft good accessories will be available in the first quarter of 2007. RV dealers will be able to order SMART RVs from Thor RV companies at the RVIA National Expo in Louisville, KY in late November.
