Boulder, January 2011 – The SALEWA Alp Trainer Mid GTX has been honored with a 2011 Backpacker Magazine Editors' Choice Award. This product award is one of the most prestigious in the outdoor industry, given annually to products in recognition of their outstanding innovation in design, materials and/or performance.

Backpacker Editor-In-Chief Jonathan Dorn and his staff of editors and testers presented the Salewa Alp Trainer Mid GTX with the award at the annual Outdoor Retailer Winter Market in Salt Lake City, Utah on Thursday, January 20th.

The Backpacker Editors' Choice Awards, bestowed annually since 1993, honor the products that Backpacker editors have chosen as the best of the year based on months of trail testing by teams of highly experienced hikers and climbers. With no set categories for the awards and no set number of recipients, the products and the testing process drive the award categories.

The Salewa Alp Trainer Mid GTX was one of only 13 innovative products honored with a 2011 Backpacker Editors' Choice Award. Salewa officially launched its line of vertically oriented shoes in Spring 2010. Despite its infancy in the US, Salewa pulls upon a rich history among the ranks of the European outdoor community.

The Alp Trainer Mid GTX, new for Spring '11, brings all of Salewa's technology into one ambitious hiking boot. The Alp Trainer Mid GTX excelled in performance, fit, and durability during this year's Editors Choice test. Together with its 3F power system, extended climbing laces, Kevlar fiber rands, and Vibram outsole, the ALP Trainer is redefining how we approach the mountains.

Chris Sword, President of Salewa North America adds, “We would like to thank Backpacker Magazine for recognizing the passionate efforts of our entire team, including designers, testers, developers, and manufacturers. This award recognizes the combination of innovation, dedication, and deep experience on our team, and we are extremely proud to accept it”.
