Road ID Celebrates Expansion by Breaking Ground at New Covington, Kentucky Location

Publish date:

(ERLANGER, KY—June 9, 2017) — Road ID, the leading provider of wearable ID products, is breaking ground on a new building today, Friday, June 9. Almost tripling the size of their current location, the family owned company will continue to foster a strong team culture, deepen their connection to the local community and have more space to house their rapidly growing business.

Road ID was founded in 1999 after co-founder, Edward Wimmer, was nearly hit by a truck while marathon training. After this near miss, father-son duo, Mike and Edward, realized that people needed a way to be easily identified when participating in outdoor activities. Since the company’s inception, Road ID has received countless thank you letters and emails from customers who have used the customizable ID bracelets, necklaces and shoe tags to feel empowered and safe while doing the things they love, from cycling and running, to hiking, traveling, and even dropping their kids off at summer camp.

Made popular by professional and amateur endurance athletes that include Levi Leipheimer, Craig Alexander, and Dean Karnazes, Road ID now offers a wide variety of ID products for the wrist, neck, ankle, shoe, fitness trackers, and even pets. Their primary initiative for the rest of 2017 will be to get more IDs on children and teens.
Road IDs are fully customizable with personal information, such as your name, contact numbers, allergies, and even a motivational mantra. They are also available in a wide range of band colors and metal finishes.

Located in the heart of Covington, Kentucky, the new space for the Road ID team was constructed in 1894 and was once a window and door warehouse. The 3-story timber-built and brick building will be retrofitted to be a Class-A office space and warehouse to suit the needs of the growing team. The ground-breaking ceremony will take place at 3:00pm, June 9 at 35 W. Eighth Street, Covington, Kentucky.

“We are excited about growing our business in this new location. This historic, urban environment will help us strengthen culture and deepen our engagement in the community,” said Edward Wimmer, Co-Owner of Road ID. “My father and I started in a basement, with a fax machine, a mere $10,000 in capital, and a dream to have a positive impact in the world. It’s humbling to move our dedicated team into a 55,000 square foot location surrounded by great restaurants, hotels and other businesses. We look forward to getting plugged in to the community and expanding our mission to empower active lifestyles while keeping people safe.”

Road ID plans to move into the Covington space at the beginning of 2018 to kick off the New Year in a new location. To learn more about Road ID products, styles, and colors, please visit:
