Friedrichshafen, Germany – The focus at OutDoor 2006 will be on the world of women, the first OutDoor Industry Award presentations and the establishment of the European OutDoor Group Foundation. The main event for the European outdoor industry in Friedrichshafen (Germany), is shaping up to be the biggest yet. OutDoor sets the pace on an international level. International participation is at a rerecord high of 79 per cent. 660 exhibitors, from 40 different countries will be a gigantic outdoor event on 29,500 square metres (new record) if display space. Nearly 100 top industry brands will be represented exclusively in Friedrichshafen. The trend fair on Lake Constance has become the largest in the international outdoor industry. Outdoor product manufacturers are setting their sights on Friedrichshafen. Industry sales in Europe alone total Euro 5.1 billion per year.

First design award for innovative outdoor products
Presented for the first time this year, the OutDoor Industry Award recognises products that combine innovative outdoor technology with high functional and design quality. This competition is open to all outdoor industry companies. The OutDoor Industry Award offers consumers a point of reference and gives the industry an incentive to present their products and see how they measure up to today's market standards. Winners will be announced on Sunday, 23rd July 2006 and the award-winning entries will be displayed in the Foyer West area at the OutDoor trade fair. Online registrations will be accepted from now until 2nd June 2006. Contact: www.ifdesign.de.

OutDoor Celebrity
Another new feature at this year's OutDoor trade event is the selection of an outstanding corporate personality from the outdoor industry. The exclusive OutDoor Celebrity of the Year 2006 award will be presented in conjunction with the trade show. A panel of media representatives will select the winner based on a majority vote.

EOG launches new environmental initiative
On the first day of the exhibition, the European OutDoor Group (EOG) will launch a new initiative that focuses on the protection of nature and the environment. Rolf Schmid, EOG President and Managing Director of the Mammut Sports Group, emphasises the significance of the project: "Environmental protection is an essential mission for us. By establishing a new and independent association, the outdoor industry will be able to offer an honest, sustainable commitment to this important issue. We have ambitious goals. Within the first year, we hope to collect a substantial amount of money to finance environmental protection and projects aimed at protecting endangered species." An exclusive presentation by Michael Fay, environmental and animal protection expert, will kick-off the project at the OutDoor trade fair. The event will take place at 12:30 PM, Sunday, 23 July 2006 in the Österreich Room.

"OutDoor Woman" forum
"This is in not a gender-specific crusade," says EOG Secretary General Mark Held. He is convinced that women have long played a key role in outdoor issues. "The industry has failed to communicate with female customers", he adds. Exhibition organiser Messe Friedrichshafen, the EOG and trade show exhibitors have created a forum to highlight the opportunities and options women's collections offer manufacturers, processors and retailers today and tomorrow.

Fashion in the mountains
The OutDoor Woman, this year's special OutDoor show created by Cologne's EHI (Eurohandelsinstitut), focuses on retail store design and visual merchandising. Display proposals will be presented showing how women in future can still be in fashion while mountaineering, and how specialist dealers can support female customers by providing choices that offer style and character. Participants among OutDoor exhibitors include Deuter, Hagloefs, Salewa, Vaude and Maier Sports. Together with leading shop design specialists, they are developing concepts for various-sized women's sportswear departments to be presented as part of the special show.

Indoor climbing competition
Classics in the trade fair's supporting programme – Fashion Show, Tent City, Climbing Wall, OutDoor Party on Tuesday, July 25) are important meeting points for trade visitors. Climbing competitions like the OutDoor Speed Cup in Hall B2 provide plenty of excitement and variety. This is where suppliers for alpine disciplines ranging from mountaineering and rock-climbing, to ice-climbing and expeditions come together. The focal point is a climbing wall where exhibitors and trade visitors can test their skills. Visitors can witness contests of speed for the Vaude Speed Cup and in Mountain Hardwear Difficulty Climbing. A bouldering wall will be set up Hall A5 where competitions including the High Jump Contest will take place.

Tent City
Outdoor adventurers need a waterproof roof over their head. Tent City offers trade visitors a complete market overview. More than 700 tents of every brand and style will be set up by 42 manufacturers in Halls A6 and B4.
