Osprey Packs, Inc., a leader in creating top-quality, high-performance, innovative packs to comfortably and efficiently carry gear, had their best Colorado Bike to Work Day in the company's history, with all 29 employees biking to and from work on Wednesday, June 23.

In total, Osprey employees biked 404.2 miles to work and back home. This equals 20.21 gallons of gas saved (based on an average of 20 mpg) and 392 pounds of carbon prevented from entering the earth's atmosphere (based on 19.4 lbs of emission per gallon and 20 mpg average).

“We're very proud of our Team Members for their 100 percent participation in this year's Bike to Work Day event,” said Sam Mix, outdoor marketing manager at Osprey. “We're excited to keep the bike momentum going at Osprey, and to continue setting an example for other local companies.”

As part of the Bike to Work Day celebration, Osprey encouraged its employees to pledge to ride to work at least once per week from June 24 to September 1, 2010, for a total of 20 trips back and forth to work. Thus far, 25 of the 29 Bike to Work riders have taken the pledge. Upon successful completion, they will be eligible for a cadre of prizes and incentives.

Offered Bike to Work incentive to Montezuma County employees

This year, Osprey wanted to motivate other Montezuma County businesses to participate in Bike to Work Day as well. To do so, they offered participating local employees a one-time pro deal discount of 50 percent off up to three packs and two accessories. The Cortez Journal took them up on their challenge, with 10 employees taking part.

“This is a great start to getting Montezuma businesses hooked on Bike to Work Day, and we hope even more companies take the challenge in 2011,” said Mix.
