Old Town, Maine - Old Town Canoes & Kayaks, a brand steeped in the history and tradition of paddlesports, is pleased to once again partner with the Northern Forest Canoe Trail as the non-profit organization celebrates its' 10th anniversary. As part of this year's 6th annual online auction Old Town is donating a special edition classic wooden canoe, the Guide 16, to the Northern Forest Canoe Trail fundraiser. http://www.oldtowncanoe.com/canoes/classic_wood/guide_16.html

Just underway the auction runs through December 3rd, 2010 with all proceeds from the bidding supporting Northern Forest Canoe Trail mission programs. With a retail value of $7,800 this classic wooden Old Town canoe is sure to help raise both money and awareness for the Northern Forest Canoe Trail.

The classic Old Town wooden Guide 16 was hand-shaped on hundred year old cedar forms by artisans who's craft has been handed down from generation to generation. Inspired by the Native American birch bark canoe, the Guide 16 paddles as beautifully as it looks. Its low profile reduces windage, while its long flat floor offers a shallow draft and ample cargo space. A favorite of Maine backcountry guides, the Guide 16 is designed and built to the highest, most exacting standards to deliver the finest paddling experience.

“Old Town is proud to partner with the Northern Forest Canoe Trail as we share a common tradition of stewardship and a passion for the waters the New England watershed,” said Sara Knies, Marketing Director for Old Town Canoes & Kayaks. “Seven of the thirteen Northern Forest Canoe Trail sections lie within the state of Maine alone and combined with routes across New York, Vermont, Quebec and New Hampshire form the preeminent historic paddling trail in North America.”

The Northern Forest Canoe Trail traces traditional east-west water routes used by Native Americans and early settlers in the Northern Forest Region, from the Adirondacks to Northern Maine. A 740-mile inland paddling trail, the Northern Forest Canoe Trail connects people to the Trail's natural environment, human heritage, and contemporary communities by stewarding, promoting, and providing access to canoe and kayak experiences along this route.

“Old Town and The Northern Forest Canoe Trail are natural partners,” said Rob Center, Co-Founder of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail. “Old Town has been crafting canoes in Maine for over a hundred years, while the waters of the National Forest Canoe Trail have seen canoe travel for thousands of years. We've very grateful for the considerable support Old Town has shown us over the years and incredibly excited to add such a classic canoe to our auction.”
