On Sunday, August 10 from 12:00 noon through 1:00 p.m. OIA, in partnership with Vasque Redwing Shoe Company and The Outdoor Foundation will present The Money is Out There: Grant Seeking at the 2008 ORSM.

On Sunday, August 10 from 12:00 noon through 1:00 p.m. Outdoor Industry Association (OIA), in partnership with Vasque Redwing Shoe Company and The Outdoor Foundation will present The Money is Out There: Grant Seeking at the 2008 Outdoor Retailer Summer Market.

During this special seminar designed specifically for not-for-profit organizations, attendees will learn the basics of grant writing: developing need statements, listing goals and objectives, writing the project description, evaluations and logic models and preparing budgets. Participants will learn how to find funding sources, develop techniques for approaching funding agencies, and examine criteria for deciding which agency or foundation is most likely to fund your project. Designed for both novice grant writers and those seeking an update, the seminar covers fundamentals, but will also address particular interests and issues facing non-profits in the outdoor industry.

The speaker for the seminar is Lori-Anne Williams, who has been working in the non-profit sector since 1983. She has worked with organizations large (The Music Center of Los Angeles, University of Minnesota) and small (Red Eye Collaboration, Wayside Theatre in Middletown, Virginia). Ms. Williams is also an experienced teacher and presenter, having taught at the University of Minnesota for eight years and at conferences around the country. As a grant writer, Lori-Anne has secured funding from agencies including McKnight Foundation, Minnesota State Arts Board, National Endowment for the Arts, National Science Foundation, Target Foundation and the U.S. Department of Education.

Those wishing to attend The Money is Out There: Grant Seeking during ORSM 2008 may visit http://www.outdoorindustry.org to RSVP by August 1 or email events@outdoorindustry.org.
