To generate awareness of and increase its Bellwether Grant Fund, Nikwax will host a happy hour on Friday, January 20, 2012 from 4:00-6:00 pm (booth #22045). The key objectives of the Nikwax Alpine Bellwether grants are to fund research into climate change, bring scientific information to the broader outdoor community, and pique the interest of that broader community to spur further education, research, and action. The Bellwether Grant is run in conjunction with the American Alpine Club (AAC), and funds research of high alpine environments, which are early indicators of climate change.
“As part of our dedication to the environment and research on global warming, Nikwax has provided $3,000 annually, with a hope to increase that contribution this year,” said Heidi Allen, Nikwax North America marketing director. “We take the issue of climate change very seriously, and hope to help bring further research on that topic to the masses.”
In support of this cause, Nikwax will offer killer deals on gear from AAC partner brands including Osprey, MSR, Sierra Designs and Outdoor Research, and 100-percent of the proceeds will fund the grant and the AAC. Tents, packs and other gear will be on sale and include the newest product from Nikwax: Tent & Gear Solarproof Concentrate.
Nikwax also will be selling a “climber” product pack to benefit the grant. In many instances, climbers are the only direct observers of these high alpine environments that are so critical to observing climate change. Nikwax product packs will ship after the show so buyers will not have to carry home a huge load of liquid product. The AAC will be providing a mobile phone credit card reader in order to take credit card orders.
Nikwax believes in being informed about the environment and is fully committed to environmentally friendly products and initiatives. Nikwax's commitment to water-based emulsions does a lot to reduce global warming and ozone depletion. The so-called “ozone friendly” solvents and propellants used in aerosols are very powerful greenhouse gases, and petroleum solvents contribute far more to global warming than carbon dioxide. In addition, Nikwax improves the performance and extends the life of outdoor clothing, footwear and equipment, thereby reducing the consumption of materials and energy that would be needed to replace these items.
Nikwax® was founded in 1977 and is the global leader in environmentally safe aftercare and waterproofing solutions that extend the life and performance of technical footwear, apparel and equipment. Nikwax® uses formulations that deliver maximum effectiveness while minimizing environmental impacts and promoting sustainability. Nikwax® is the only major aftercare company to have never used aerosols, fluorocarbons, nor harmful volatile organic chemicals. They are all fluorochemical-free, use advanced elastomer technology, are not tested on animals, and are non persistent.
Nikwax® currently exports to 50 countries across the globe, is the recipient of numerous awards including the prestigious Queen’s Award (2x), Sunday Times Best Green Award (3x), and the Green Apple Award, and is ISO 9001 and 14001 certified.
