Marmot Teams-up with Mountain Gear for Donner Summit UClimb Weekend July 19-20

Santa Rosa, CA -- In a weekend of camping, climbing and camaraderie, Spokane-based outdoor catalog business and retailer, Mountain Gear is teaming up with clothing and equipment manufacturer, Marmot Mountain LLC to host the first-ever Donner Summit UClimb weekend in Northern California, July 19-20. The national climbing event located near Lake Tahoe hopes to bring together nearly 100 people to learn safe climbing techniques, proper use of climbing gear, important voice commands, knot tying, belaying and climbing etiquette in small-groups with other amateur climbers.

"Mountain Gear has created a great event in a scenic destination in the Sierras,” explains Andy Meyer, Marmot's Sponsorship Manager. “This is a remarkable, one-of-a-kind opportunity to learn how to rock-climb and we're encouraging as many people as we can to get out there to learn the fundamentals from world-class instructors,” he adds.

Created by Mountain Gear's President Paul Fish, and managed by Event Coordinator, Phil Bridgers, UClimb is dedicated to bringing people across the country closer to the outdoors and is an ideal introduction to the world of rock climbing. Coupling professional climbing instructors from Alpine Skills International with support from Mountain Gear and Marmot employees, UClimb is poised to be a memorable weekend.

Registration for the weekend event begins at $159 for youth ages 10-17 and $199 for adults. This includes professional climbing instruction, camping accommodations for Friday and Saturday nights, a barbeque on Saturday and a pancake breakfast on Sunday. UClimb will also offer packages with basic climbing gear needed for the weekend including shoes, harness, belay device, helmet, locking carabineer and a chalk bag. Gear packages are $289 for youth ages 10-17 and $329 for adults. Individuals can also register for event festivities without the climbing instruction for $49. Children under 10 are not eligible for the professional climbing instruction but can attend for festivities at no cost.
