(Petaluma, CA, August 1, 2011) – Lowepro, the leading brand of protective gear for photography equipment and portable electronic devices, is pleased to announce that Ty Wivell has joined the company's sales team as National Sales Manager, Outdoor. For the past 14 years, Wivell has worked as a manufacturer's representative in New England, representing many of the industry's leading brands including Mountain Hardwear, Camelbak, Timbuk2, Thule, Cascade Designs/MSR, Salomon, Princeton Tec, Sorel, SierraDesigns, Clif Bar & Co. and Montrail.
“We are ecstatic to have Ty joining our team. His experience as an outdoor adventurer and photographer combined with his intimate knowledge of the technical pack market and the demands of the outdoor consumer will help Lowepro better serve our outdoor specialty retail partners” said Rick Olson, DayMen/Lowepro's Senior Vice President & General Manager for US and Latin America. “We have long been the market leader in camera carrying solutions for outdoor photographers, and we are dedicated to expanding our partnership with the retailers that those customers trust.”
In addition to a career spent servicing the outdoor channel, for the past three years Wivell has served on the Board of Directors for the Eastern Outdoor Representatives Association (EORA). Additionally, he works as a freelance photographer and writer. His work has been featured in many outdoor publications, and he is the author of two books: Discover Maine - AMC's Guide to Hiking, Biking, and Paddling the Pine Tree State (2006), and Passport to AMC's High Huts in the White Mountains, which was released in May 2011.
“As an avid outdoor photographer myself, I am excited to combine my skills and expertise in the outdoor industry with my passion for photography,” said Wivell. “I am sincerely looking forward to furthering Lowepro's reputation as the leading manufacturer of bags and accessories for outdoor and adventure photographers.”
Recent additions to the Lowepro product line have focused on the adventure-sport photographer and other outdoor categories such as birding enthusiasts, and the company is well positioned to actively pursue new markets with its wholly innovative carrying solutions. With the hiring of Wivell, Lowepro will continue to explore new avenues for growth utilizing his professional connections and knowledge of the market.
