Las Vegas (November 29, 2010)—Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort (LVSSR), which kicked off its 2010-11 season on Friday, Nov. 26, 2010, reports a successful opening weekend. On Friday, the resort opened with a 12-inch base and access to three trails via two lifts, including Chair 2, which provides access to Darkside Park, LVSSR’s popular all-terrain park for skiers and boarders.

“There was tremendous excitement in the air throughout the weekend, and we were thrilled to have such a terrific turnout from local skiers and snowboarders,” says Kevin Stickelman, president and general manager of LVSSR. “The recent cold weather pattern coupled with our increased snowmaking capacity enabled us to provide our guests with a fantastic skiing experience. This is just the beginning; LVSSR is committed to providing its guests with the finest snow sport experience throughout the season,” he says. Stickelman, who has a long track record of success in ski area management, took the helm at LVSSR in September.

In addition to the area’s increased snowmaking ability, Curt Sheffield, LVSSR’s director of business administration, cites other area improvements that contributed to the weekend’s success. “The Ski Bus was packed with enthusiastic skiers and boarders who were more than happy to leave their cars behind and enjoy a great day on the mountain,” says Sheffield.

Sheffield notes that this year’s expanded Ski Bus route will pick up and drop off passengers daily at Town Square and Santa Fe Station Hotel & Casino. An additional stop at University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) is scheduled for Fridays. Roundtrip fare for all standard routes is $20. A special Mountain Shuttle is available for $10 roundtrip, with daily pickup and drop-off service at the Resort at Mount Charleston. Reservations are recommended and can be booked online at www.skilasvegas.com or by calling the main Ski Vegas city office at 702-645-2754 Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
