Boulder, Colo. – Active Interest Media Inc. (AIM) today announced that Jonathan Dorn, Editor-in-Chief of Backpacker, has been promoted to Editorial Director of AIM’s Western Outdoor Living Group.
In his new role, Dorn will manage content and brand development for AIM’s growing group of Boulder-based properties that include Backpacker, SNEWS®, Yellowstone Journal, and American Cowboy. He will remain Editor-in-Chief of Backpacker and has promoted Dennis Lewon, currently Deputy Editor, to Executive Editor of the magazine.
“Jon has done an extraordinary job in building the Backpacker brand,” says Andrew Clurman, COO of AIM. “In the short time he’s been with AIM, Jon and his team have redesigned and launched the all-new Backpacker.com, doubling traffic and revenue to the site; acquired and integrated SNEWS to add an important business-to-business foothold in the outdoor industry; and launched a highly profitable GPS mapping business that provides content and revenue to Backpacker and external map licensees. We expect he will achieve more great successes with our other Western properties.”
In 2008, Backpacker won a National Magazine Award for General Excellence for magazines between 250,000 and 500,000 circulation. In 2009, Backpacker received four ASME nominations, including General Excellence selections for both print and online.
