The Guy Not At OR, a Wordpress blog pulled together by a guy who didn't go to OR Winter Market, is garnering a lot of traffic and attention. Probably too much attention for something that's just kind of a joke and has a lifespan of about three days.
"Seriously, I started this because I had some time because I didn't go to OR," says The Guy. "It was kind of a way to stay in touch and let folks know en masse that I wasn't in Salt Lake."
The Guy, who has attended every OR Show since 1999, just decided to stay home this time.
The blog features product reviews of gear that is not at OR, party and event updates of stuff that's not going at OR, and just a bunch of general Not At OR silliness.

Yesterday was a hardshell day. The Guy turned to Marmot’s Alpinist Jacket. Utilizing 3-ply Gore-Tex technology that was new when The Guy got it in the ’90’s, the thing kept The Guy Not At OR dry in the rain while he walked up the street to go out to dinner with his wife.

Today is more soft-shell. Guy is sporting a Sierra Designs He-Forgot-What-The-Hell-It’s-Named Jacket. And The Guy was the guy that named it. Still, in the long walk from car to office door, the What’s Its Name Jacket kept the wettish not-quite-snow gunk off, and was toasty while waiting for the car’s heater to kick in.
There’s a bunch of other random shellage floating around The Guy’s house that he should probably get rid of, but The Guy knows that is vitally important to have a different jacket for every 2-degree variation in temperature.
