Five Ten announced at the recent OR Summer Market that they will be introducing two styles with eVent® fabric for '07 delivery, joining Ground, KEEN, Integral Designs, Westcomb, Hi-Tec, Kayland, Feathered Friends and more than 50 other brands currently utilizing eVent fabric technology.

The two new models—the Marvel and the Phenom—apply eVent® fabrics' unique venting membrane with millions of pores that breathe at their full potential. With eVent® fabric, sweat can vent directly to the outside of the shoe in one easy step, though a process called Direct Venting™ technology. This is a fast system, keeping your feet dry on the inside. Simply put, eVent® Fabric let the sweat out.™

The Phenom ($135) is a mid-cut shoe for day hikes or fast packing. It offers more support than traditional trail shoes, with a durable, comfortable waterproof/breathable leather and eVent upper. The Phylon midsoles are designed to absorb shock and provide day-long comfort. Five Ten's new line of shoes incorporates many of Five Ten's proprietary features from their rock climbing heritage. For heel control, the Phyenom has Asym Slingshot Control System (ASC), and soles with co-molded Stealth S1/C4 for the world's best friction on rock and challenging terrain. The Phenom will be offered in women's and men's models.

In the trail running/adventure race category, Five Ten will introduce the Marvel ($120), also in both men's and women's styles. The Marvel is a lightweight, stable shoe with PU crash pads under the heels and metatarsals to absorb shock. The upper is a synthetic Nubuck with waterproof breathable eVent® fabric. Five Ten will also offer a revolutionary new trail shoe with eVent® fabric for '07; but due to its patent-pending design, information was not available to the media at the time of publication.

Charles Cole, founder and president of Five Ten, said, "We have been looking at eVent® fabric for a long time and have long appreciated its significant performance advantages in footwear. Until now we felt it didn't have the brand recognition we needed at retail. REI and other specialty retailers are now selling a significant amount of footwear with eVent fabric and, across the board, floor staff are getting increasingly sophisticated in their knowledge of the product. Our market studies indicate that public recognition of performance advantages of eVent has also increased significantly. We appreciate the strides that eVent has made in the European and Asian markets and expect similar advances in the US market."

Jim Lenox, Business Manager for eVent® fabrics, shares Cole's sentiment. "We have had a close relationship with Five Ten over the last four years. It's exciting for us to couple our advances over that time and approach the market with the highest available level of performance," says Lenox, "this is an exciting time for Five Ten customers.”

Entering their sixth year in the outdoor industry, eVent® fabrics has built a strong reputation as a highly-functional waterproof laminate technology with a very loyal following. Unlike other laminates on the market, eVentfabrics allow sweat to vent directly to the outside of the garment in one easy step through a process called Direct Venting™ technology. This unique process allows moisture to vent away from the body without condensing on the inside of the fabric, helping to keep the user dry no matter what the activity or conditions. Simply put, eVent fabrics let the sweat out.™
