United Kingdom -- Announced each year on the Queen's birthday, 21 April, the prestigious awards are made to elite companies across three categories of International Trade, Innovation and Sustainable Development.
Berghaus has been acknowledged as an award winner in the Innovation Category for design and technical developments in outdoor products.

As Berghaus celebrates its 40th anniversary, the Award acknowledges Berghaus' continuous commitment and dedication to innovation in design, marketing and sales of outdoor products, all of which have contributed to securing a market leader position.

Brand President Richard Cotter said of the award: “This is one of the most highly prized and internationally recognised awards. Everyone at Berghaus is proud of this achievement. To gain an award in the Innovation Category is especially significant for us as we strive for continuous innovation in the design of our products to help people achieve their goals in the outdoors.”

A few of Berghaus' winning innovative products include; Extrem Light, an integrated lightweight range of clothing, footwear and rucsacs, designed to help people go faster, further and in greater comfort with a focus on weight reduction.

The products are durable enough to meet the demands of outdoor users as all designs went through extensive lab testing and hundreds of hours of field testing prior to the range being launched. The collection consists of super lightweight products for mountain use, which are around 50% lighter in weight than other products available.

In 2004 and after four years in development, Berghaus launched the world's most innovative Rucsac Back System to date, Bioflex. The system is designed to work with the body's natural movements, giving a more stable load and less fatigue for the wearer.

The consumer response to Bioflex Rucsacs has been excellent both in the UK and overseas securing Berghaus' leading position in this category in the UK market. Early 2006 saw Bioflex also scoop the prestigious international award in the sports and outdoor trade, the ISPO product award 2005.

Berghaus also identified a lack of innovative products in the travel clothing sector – a new market for Berghaus, and that the technical benefits given to Berghaus outdoor performance products could be applied to travel items. The Adventure Travel range, a collection of clothing, footwear and rucsacs designed to perform in the most extreme temperatures. A unique set of fabric benefits were developed from complete ultra violet protection to incorporate anti-mosquito and anti-bacterial protection. The fabrics were then incorporated into designs that are perfect for the traveller's needs; light and packable with essential security features.

The range has been a big success internationally and greatly contributed to seasonal sales.
Berghaus chairman, Sir Chris Bonington, said: "I believe that the dedicated team we have at Berghaus is second-to-none and the equipment we produce is some of the best in the world, which is why everyone can feel part of this tremendous achievement. If there's one thing that being involved in expeditions to the ends of the earth teaches you, it's the importance of a good team who are passionate and committed to what they do.”
