OAKLAND, CA (January 23rd, 2008) -- Adventure® Medical Kits, a leading developer of adventure and safety gear for outdoor enthusiasts, announced today that it has entered into a sponsorship agreement with preeminent mountaineer and author, Ed Viesturs.

The agreement formalizes a lengthy working relationship between the company and Viesturs, who used AMK's Professional and Ultralight & Watertight series kits on his summit of Annapurna, the last peak in his 16-year quest to climb all 14 of the world's highest mountains.

“The opportunity to partner with an athlete of Ed's caliber is a major coup for us,” says AMK co-founder and marketing director, Frank Meyer.

“Ed's career continues to be all about integrity. He was the first American climber to reach the world's major peaks without the use of supplemental oxygen, but did so with safety and caution in mind. That marries up perfectly with Adventure Medical Kits' core philosophy -- to create products that help our customers go further, faster and safer in the outdoors,” said Meyer.

For Viesturs, the agreement with AMK further cements his affinity for the company and its products.

“Even before I met Frank or any of the principals at AMK, I was using their gear,” says Viesturs.

“Whether I'm on a climb or with the kids in the boat, I make sure I have AMK kits with me. They're super lightweight, organized and have everything in them that you need -- just in case. It's peace of mind,” says Viesturs.

Over the next 12 months, Viesturs will help promote the AMK brand through his expeditions, on his website (, via co-branded point of purchase materials and in AMK's NEW “BE SAFE” videos. The “BE SAFE” videos, which Viesturs will star in and narrate, will provide useful tips on backcountry first aid (e.g. how to prevent and recognize altitude sickness) and survival (e.g. how to recognize and avoid avalanche conditions). Slated for a Spring '08 launch, the videos will be distributed to AMK retail accounts and will also be available to consumers for download at
