Morro Bay, CA (May 3, 2018)— All Good – makers of Reef-Friendly and organic sunscreens commends Hawaii on their persistence and passion to protect their natural resources and heritage with the enactment of the ‘Oxybenzone Bill.’ Hawaiian legislature has passed Senate Bill 2571 banning some chemical-based sunscreens, and once signed by Governor David Ige (D), will take effect January 1, 2021.

The sunscreen ban will prohibit companies from selling and distributing sunscreens on the islands that contain oxybenzone and oxtinoxate, both harmful ingredients deemed damaging to coral reefs. All Good is thrilled to be part of the coalition pushing this bill, encouraging use of mineral-based sunscreens.

Legislative efforts were led strongly by Craig A. Downs, Ph.D. & Executive Director of Haereticus Environmental Laboratory and Hawaii-based non-profits such as Friends of Hanauma Bay. All Good paralleled their work by launching an educational Reef Friendly sunscreen campaign with defined criteria and a mineral sunscreen pledge for consumers. The criteria was created to raise awareness around the globe on the many benefits of mineral-based and botanical body care products.

“This bill is a victory for Hawaii, for its people and for coral reef ecosystems around the world,” states All Good Founder and CEO, Caroline Duell. “Hawaii is making one very bold and honorable step in the right direction with SB2571. There is still so much work to do, but this is a remarkable landmark for the health of people and the ocean.”

Hawaii will be the first state to enact such law. All Good in turn expects the chemical-based sunscreen ban to gain momentum across the country as communities rally to protect their water-based ecosystems—from creeks and rivers to lakes and reefs.
