Ahead of the annual Grassroots Connect buying show, the consortium of specialty retailers and vendors on Monday welcomed six new stores to its membership.
The additions elevate Grassroots Outdoor Alliance to 74 members and 144 doors nationwide, marking the largest size ever for the organization.
The new retail members include:
- High Country Outfitters in Atlanta, Georgia
- Jax Mercantile in La Porte, Colorado
- Kristi Mountain Sports in Alamosa, Colorado
- Mountain Sports in Arlington, Texas
- Tahoe Mountain Sports in Truckee, California
- Walkabout Outfitter in Lexington, Virginia
"The growth of interest and membership in Grassroots Outdoor Alliance is a strong positive indicator for the broader outdoor industry," said Dana Howe, the alliance's retail relations manager. "These are businesses that are already performing at a high level, but are looking to deepen relationships and increase their business efficiencies."
While the organization doesn't have any stated growth targets, membership has rapidly increased over the last few years. In 2014, Grassroots had 53 members and 115 storefronts. In 1996, when it was called ROI, the group was made up of 11 retail members and 30 storefronts.
New retailers are added through a structured process that starts with pre-qualification, then formal application, and finally, a board vote every August.
