In another sign of the economic slump, SportsArt Fitness is paring back. The company’s commercial reps were let go in early November, and the company parted ways on Nov. 7 with its director of marketing since 1996, Scott Logan. The company continues with a trial at Costco begun in October of its equipment, including the XTrainer, going for $4,000 at Costco.com… Juice it up! Rick Myers and Kevin Lamb, former owners of the south division of Total Fitness until they sold their four stores a year ago to Omni Fitness, have just opened a Robek’s Juice (think Jamba-like juice) in West Hartford, Conn. Drop him a line at rick@robekssmoothies.com....

Totally on the move: Matt Arcata, former co-owner of the north division of Total Fitness stores until they shut their doors in May, has opened up as Total Fitness Plus in the former TFE location in Newington, Conn. He and minority partner John Coelho, who worked at the TFE Manchester store, kept the website, www.totalfitnessequipment.com. TFE founder John Valles is also involved. They can be reached at tfnewington@tf.necoxmail.com....

In more good news in today’s times: Dave Aykanian, owner of Precision Fitness of Boston, has opened a fourth store and called to tell SNEWS®, “It’s the people.” Three of his key staff have been with him for 15 years or more: Steve Nahabedian, 20 years; David Ramsey, 16 years; and Michael Crumb, 15 years. Precision opened its first store in 1988, second in 1990, and third in 1992. OK, so it took them two decades to get to four, with this one now in Hanover, Mass. “We felt it was right,” Aykanian said. www.pfe-inc.com....

Jeff Shipman, formerly of Leisure Fitness, is now running the Northeast region for commercial dealer Heartline Fitness. Former Advantage Fitness staffer Russ Hildebrand is also now at Heartline (www.heartlinefitness.com)…. In a well-timed move, the entire commercial staff for FHI, all formerly of L.A. Gym’s commercial division, moved over in September to Advanced Exercise Equipment, with Rick Barbee still heading up the team…. Southern California-based Pronto Installation, an installation and service company (www.prontoinstallation.com), has opened a location in Phoenix, Ariz. Operations director there is Chris Jones. We’re told a Nevada operation is coming on Arizona’s heels.
