Fitness: Movin' & Shakin'
For March 7 to 13
Don't worry your little heads. Woody Fisher, sales dude for Spirit, is still there (to be kicked around) despite an email he sent out asking folks to use a non-Spirit email to reach him. Seems the company is bustin' at the seams and they worked out an arrangement for Fisher to spend most of his non-traveling time in his home office…. Congrats to Rodney Rice Jr., who has spent the last six months re-building his Metaire, La., Fitness Expo store post-Katrina. He has just finished, and it's open again….
A few dates and locations to mark on your calendar: The new SGMA Spring Market -- half of the two shows that are replacing The Super Show (may it rest in peace) -- will be June 11-13 at the Sands Expo & Convention Center in Las Vegas. This is the one that is set to focus on Holiday and Q1 deliveries. The second of the two will be in the fall at a yet-to-be-announced place or yet-to-be-announced dates…. The Athletic Business Conference is also moving to Sin City from Florida so start saving your pennies for the one-armed bandits. The 2006 show will be Nov. 15-17….
And perhaps you've heard that John Stransky is taking over the helm at Brunswick's Life Fitness company from Peter Hamilton, who barely got started there just about a year ago and told SNEWS® in October that he planned to retire at Life Fitness. Well, so much for those plans. He was named president of the boat division; Stransky had led the billiards and bowling division. As a Life Fitness manager told us, "I guess the only constant in life really is change." Hamilton leaves behind a re-organized strategy that pulled out a separate consumer business unit to refocus on that segment. Look for Stransky, who has been with Brunswick for 25 (!) years, at IHRSA.
