Horizon Fitness has promoted Clint Myers to vice president of product and engineering. In his new role, Myers will lead product managers in executing annual plans from conceptualization to final production and will develop internal engineering resources for the company. Prior to joining Horizon Fitness a year ago, Myers worked for its parent, Johnson Health Tech., and was based in Shanghai, China…. Long-time executive assistant at Lamar Fitness Jolene Woelk is leaving the company to follow her dream: She'll be running a yoga retreat in Mexico, www.presentmomentretreat.com. "It's an incredible place and not at all just about yoga," Woelk said the week before she left. "Every once in a while you just have to follow your dream." We definitely wish her the best of luck!

The new board for IHRSA is Susan Cooper, owner of Body Business Health Club & Spa; Art Curtis, CEO of Millennium Partners Sports Club Management; Sandy Hoeffer, vice president of Western Athletic Clubs; and Mike Raymond, president of Curves International. Their four-year terms will begin July 1, 2007…. Among awards bestowed at IHRSA's convention in March was one to CSI Software as the IHRSA Associate Member of the Year…. Mark Zabel is the new vice president of marketing for Matrix Fitness. Formerly senior manager, global marketing strategy, for Medtronic, a Minneapolis-based medical technology company, Zabel started March 19. Before that, he spent more than five years with Life Fitness as a product manager and then business manager for commercial strength products….

After four issues of FitBiz with "top" retailer lists, we suddenly discovered we had been ignoring an outstanding dealer, Universal Athletic, in Wyoming, Montana, Arizona and Utah with 13 stores. Universal Athletic opened in 1970 with its first store in Bozeman. Granted, it is a community-oriented athletic supply with all the sporting goods brands and works with local teams, but it also carries fitness equipment and gear…. G.I. Joe's is in the process of changing outside signage and inside logos on everything from uniforms to shopping carts to its new brand, Joe's. The transformation was to be done by April 1, when Joe's also launched a new website, with the new address, www.joessports.com. Its former military identification was no longer a part of the current format and didn't represent the chain property as it grew.
