No surprise here. Patagonia has received acknowledgement from Health magazine as one of the 10 best companies for women to work. In its July/August issue, the Time Inc.-owned magazine honors companies that excel at helping women win what editors call "the work-life challenge." Patagonia was the only California company to make the list, which spotlights businesses that do more than provide good health insurance, flexible schedules and on-site child care. Other companies on the list include natural-care products maker Tom's of Maine, Illinois drugmaker Abbott Laboratories, Virginia-based mortgage lender Freddie Mac, and Texas oil giant Conoco. In addition to the Health article, Patagonia was a repeat honoree in Fortune magazine's annual "100 Best Companies to Work For" issue in January and has been similarly honored by other publications in the past, including Working Mother magazine in 1999 (all reported by SNEWS® earlier).
