2012 SNEWS Retail Survey Results Part 2: Top-selling cardio brands by category

The annual SNEWS® Fitness Retailer Survey results are in. This second installment reports on the companies that offer the top selling cardio equipment by category, according to our retailers.

The annual SNEWS® Fitness Retailer Survey results are in.

On Wednesday, we reported on which suppliers are the "best" and "worst" to work with last Wednesday — as determined by our retailers. Now we tell you which companies, again according to our retailers, offer the top-selling cardio equipment by category (elliptical, treadmill and stationary cycles).

Top-selling treadmills

We asked retailers to rank their top-selling treadmills by first, second and third best-selling treadmills. In turn, we reported how companies ranked within those three categories.

The No. 1 best-selling treadmills were:

  • True Fitness, with 20 percent of the vote
  • Landice, with 17.5 percent
  • Precor, with 15 percent
  • Vision and Bodyguard, each with 10 percent
  • Life Fitness and Spirit, each with 7.5 percent 
  • AFG and Pacemaster, each with 2.5 percent

The second best-selling treadmills were:

  • Vision and Spirit, each with 17.5 percent of the vote
  • Landice, with 15 percent 
  • Life Fitness and Precor, each with 12.5 percent 
  • LifeSpan and BH, each with 5 percent
  • AFG Fitness, Bodyguard, Noramco and Sports Art, each with 2.5 percent

Top ranked among the third best-selling treadmills were:

  • BH, with 16.22 percent of the vote
  • Landice, Life Fitness Precor, Spirit and Vision, each with 10.81 percent 
  • AFG, with 8.11 percent 
  • 3G Cardio, with 5.41 percent
  • Bodyguard, Bremshey, Free Motion, LifeSpan, Sports Art and True Fitness, each with 2.7 percent

Top-selling elliptical machines

Same deal with the elliptical trainers — we asked respondents to rank their top selling ellipticals by first, second and third best-selling treadmills and we in turn reported how companies ranked within those three categories.

No shocker here as Octane Fitness has overwhelmingly recaptured the top spot on the top sellers list. Here is what our retailers said:

Top ranked among the best-selling ellipticals were:

  • Octane, with 52.5 percent of the vote
  • Precor, with 17.5 percent 
  • Life Fitness, with 12.5 percent 
  • True Fitness, with 7.5 percent 
  • Spirit, with 5 percent
  • Sports Art and Vision, each with 2.5 percent

Top ranked among the second-best selling ellipticals were:

  • Vision, with 21.05 percent of the vote
  • Precor, with 18.42 percent 
  • Spirit, with 15.79 percent 
  • True Fitness, with 13.16 percent 
  • Life Fitness, with 10.53 percent
  • AFG Fitness, Bodyguard, Diamondback, Helix, Octane Nautilus and Sports Art, each with 2.63 percent

Top ranked among the third best-selling ellipticals were:

  • Life Fitness with 25 percent of the vote
  • Spirit with 16.67 percent
  • AFG, Landice and Vision with 8.33 percent
  • BH, Body Solid, Bodybuard, Cybex, Free Motion Fitness, Infinity, Inspire, Life Core, Matrix, Nautilus, Octane, True Fitness each with 2.78 percent

Top-selling stationary cycles

Top ranked among the best-selling stationary cycles:

  • Life Fitness and Spirit fitness, each with 20 percent of the vote
  • Life Core, with 15 percent
  • True Fitness, with 10 percent
  • Octane and Vision, each with 7.5 percent
  • BH, Bodyguard, Diamondback, Frequency Fitness, Keiser, Proform, each with 2.5 percent

Top ranked among the second best-selling stationary cycles:

  • Life Fitness and Vision, each with 23.08 percent of the vote
  • LeMond, with 12.82 percent
  • Diamondback, Spirit, True Fitness and Waters, each with 5.13 percent of the vote
  • BH, CycleOps, Frequency Fitness, Inspire Fitness, Keiser, Life Core, Sports Art and Proform, each with 2.56 percent 

Top ranked among the third best-selling stationary cycles:

  • True Fitness and Spirit, each with 13.51 percent of the vote
  • Life Fitness, with 10.81 percent
  • Vision and Schwinn, each with 8.11 percent
  • Bodyguard, Diamondback, LeMond, Precor, Sports Art and Waters, each with 5.41 percent
  • Ball Bike, Life Core, Matrix, Multisports, Proform, each with 2.7 percent
