It's been a tumultuous six months internally for the folks at Cascade Designs (CDI), largely a result of a revision of the CDI Employee Stock Bonus Plan (ESBP) which left company founder John Burroughs holding approximately 96 percent of the company shares. As a result, several key veteran members of the CDI management team decided it was a good time to move on, including, most recently, Lee Fromson, who will step down as company president on Feb. 28.

Outdoors Inc., a Tennessee-based specialty retailer with four retail locations, had its 5-year-old Entre Pris portable climbing wall stolen from the company's office/warehouse parking lot. Lawrence Migliara, co-owner of Outdoors Inc., told SNEWS®, "The unit weighs approximately 6,000 pounds, so the vehicle towing it has to be pretty substantial."

Outdoor Gear Exchange, a Vermont-based outdoor specialty retailer, is encouraging customers to bring their own bags to carry purchases in. According to a news report in www.sevendaysvt.com, OGE puts 5 cents (what the store pays for each plastic bag) into a donation jar for local charities every time a customer declines a disposable plastic bag to tote store purchases home in.

Up and down the aisles we went as we searched, evaluated and chose our favorites based on our well-established criteria. This year's winners of the BOB Awards did a great job of creating booths that sparked a glimmer in the SNEWS® judges' eyes and, in some cases, took booth design to a new level.

The ispo sporting goods show held Jan. 29-Feb.1 in Munich, Germany, once again proved its worth to each market segment it serves, and demonstrated that it helps every exhibitor succeed. The show also reflected the optimistic mood in the sports trade in central Europe and signaled that a so-called recession and hesitant consumer spending were on the way out after a great winter.
