Melissa Arnot Reid is the only American woman to have ascended and descended Mt. Everest without supplemental oxygen.

Melissa Arnot Reid is an American mountain guide and professional athlete. In 2016, she became the first American woman to successfully ascend and descend Mt. Everest without supplemental oxygen. It was her sixth summit of Mt. Everest, and her first from the north side. Arnot Reid has climbed Mt. Rainier more than 100 times.

Arnot Reid is a certified EMT and she is currently sponsored by Eddie Bauer. Arnot Reid was one one of the six original mountain guides who helped Eddie Bauer launch its First Ascent line in 2009. She actively participate sin product development and testing.

In 2016, Arnot Reid and her mentee, Maddie Mille,r set a new world record for the 50 Peaks Challenge, which entails summiting the highest elevation point in all 50 states. 

Less than 300 people  have summited all 50 American high points. Miller did it in a record setting 41 days, 16 hours, and 10 minutes with Arnot Reid's help and support. (Arnot Reid actually skipped Denali as she was recovering from frostbite on her toe from her Everest climb earlier that year.)
