Tern Provides Bikes for SXSW Eco

Urban transport specialist, Tern, returns to Austin next week to provide attendees of the SXSW Eco conference with bikes to navigate the city.

AUSTIN, TEXAS - September 27, 2012 — Urban transport specialist, Tern, returns to Austin next week to provide attendees of the SXSW Eco conference with bikes to navigate the city. Building on the success of last spring's "SXCycles presented by Tern" (the first bike share program in South by Southwest history), Tern will again offer conference-goers a chance to experience Austin in an efficient, fun, and sustainable way.

Happening October 3-5 at the AT&T Conference Center in Austin, SXSW Eco will explore challenges facing the economy, the environment and civil society. The conference brings together on-the-ground innovators and executive-level decision makers from the public and private sectors as well as thought leaders from academia.

"At SXSW Interactive, we changed the way Austin looked at transportation during its conferences," said Andrew McCalla, Tern's Project Manager and Austin resident. "We're thrilled to be back to help attendees `practice what they preach' in terms of sustainability and environmental best-practices."

True to the earth-friendly goals of the conference, Tern’s Eco Cycles bike share program will provide registered conference participants with an environmentally conscious way to get between the conference center, outside events, and lodging.

Rental includes 24-hour use of a Tern Link D8, helmet, lock, and mobile assistance by Guerilla Cyclewerx, if needed. Bikes may be reserved online in advance from Velolet.com or at the rental booth located at the intersection of Whitis Avenue and West 20th Street on a first come, first serve basis.

A bike with the perfect gearing for Austin's flat downtown but with enough range for a jaunt around Austin's Hill Country, a quick 10 second fold-to-unfold time, and zippy 20-inch wheels makes the Link D8 the perfect SXSW Eco transportation option. A rear rack, rear and front fenders, and a chainring guard will keep riders dry and grease-free.

Using a Tern will help reduce attendees' carbon emissions along with removing the financial burden of short, expensive cab rides. For anyone who wants to try out a bike without a full 24-hour rental, the booth will also serve as a demo station for the Link D8 and other products from Tern and cycling accessories brand, Biologic.
