OGDEN,UT——Suunto, a leading designer and manufacturer of sports instruments, is reaching out to the running community at grassroots events through a new partnership with Runner's World Magazine, the world's leading running magazine. This unique event marketing program connects thousands of runners with the Suunto brand and local specialty stores.

The program targets seven key regions - Texas, California, New York City Metro, Atlanta Metro, Seattle, Chicago and Florida. Runner's World provides support for the events through the Runner's World Race Series program which offers race directors Suunto branded bibs or race bag inserts for their events. “Suunto is dedicated to making top-of-the-line heart-rate monitors with features that help runners get the most out of their workouts,” says Suunto Trade Marketing Manager Andrew Chek. “As an important part of the running community, we're dedicating resources to events that are important to runners of every skill level, and putting the power of our brand to work by driving business back to those local running specialty stores that take pride in providing personalized service to athletes.”

Suunto aims to increase brand awareness and drive consumers to running specialty shops carrying its products and, through this sponsorship program, Suunto and its local retailers will have a strong presence at more than 80 events this year, reaching nearly 300,000 runners. This year's races include small community runs, like The Hound Dog Hustle in Grapevine, Texas to benefit homeless animals, as well as big events like The Carlsbad 5000 – billed as the world's fastest 5k, with several world records set on the course and a $70,000 prize purse to attract world class runners among its 15,000 participants. By sponsoring a variety of community-based runs as well as larger, mass-appeal events, Suunto will reach all levels of athletes, from the casual runner to the collegiate and elite level.
