Runners from 18 States Arrive at Rock/Creek for Stage Race

MEDIA ALERT: Runners from 18 States Arrive at Rock/Creek for Chattanooga Mountains Stage Race

Rock/Creek and Wild Trails announce the first of three days of the Chattanooga Mountains Stage Race, presented by SmartWool, coming up tomorrow, Friday, June 18, 2010. Racers have begun to arrive in Chattanooga and will be picking up their race packets at Rock/Creek at 2 North Shore today from 4-7PM. As one of very few multi-day trail running races in the United States, this weekend's event is as unique as the various venues around Chattanooga. Stage 2 will take place on Raccoon Mountain and Stage 3 will be Signal Mountain.

This is the 5th race in the 2010 Rock/Creek Trail Series. Around 200 participants are coming from 18 states across the country, from as far away as Colorado, New Mexico, and New Hampshire. Runners from the Southeastern states are strongly represented as is typical in this series.

For stage one, runners will start at Lula Lake Land Trust and battle 22 miles along Lookout Mountain starting at 8AM. Racers will experience landmarks such as the beautiful Lula Lake and Lula Falls. At mile 10.7, they refuel with water, HEED, fruit, or salty and sweet items at the Aid Station in preparation for the steep approach to Covenant College's Cross-Country Park and finish with scenic views along Eagle Cliff.

Race proceeds benefit Wild Trails, a new 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a mission to promote the use, protection and expansion of trails in greater Chattanooga.
