Celebrating their mountain biking roots, Recover Brands - the sustainable apparel and accessories brand from Charlotte, NC - heads back to the Green River Games as their Sponsor and Official Merchandise Partner for the fourth year in a row. The Games, a multi-sport competition encompassing the best of Western North Carolina Sports, features a range of races and competitions such as mountain biking, kayaking and trail running.

Perhaps the highlight of the two-day festival, the Silverback is their signature race involving the completion of three disciplines all in one go, similar to a triathlon. Competitors begin whitewater kayaking, move to mountain biking, and end with trail running. According to Recover founder Bill Johnston, this race particular is what makes The Games so unique and a reason why the brand loves supporting the event year after year.

“The Silverback itself is one of the most unique races around as it requires so much skill across multiple sports. There simply are not a lot of athletes that can complete that feat - much less compete. We love everything else about this event and we’re psyched to partner with the Green River Games as their official merchandise partner again.”

Aside from the gnarly races, one of the biggest benefits of the Festival - and another reason Recover is proud to support - is the development of the Green River Game Lands Trail System. The 16 mile long trail system is a joint project between the Environmental and Conservation Organization (ECO) and the NC Wildlife Resources Commision and it worked on by volunteers of the Green River Games who work on building new bridges, digging water bars, cutting out fallen trees and general clean up duties.

“Not only have the Green River Games and its enduro race become one of the top mountain biking races in the area, but the trail work they do for the game lands has quickly made it one of WNC’s best places to ride mountain bikes in just a few short years,” Johnston said. “It’s something we believe in as a brand and are happy to get behind”

The Green River Games is put on by an Asheville, NC company - Amongstit - who Recover partners with on all their events, supplying shirts for the iconic Green Race, Battle of the Broad, and a number of other events as well.

An environmentally conscious company, Recover’s method of creating comfortable active apparel out of discarded plastic bottles and upcycled cotton has resulted in diverting over 5 million plastic bottles out of landfills, plus a 35% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, 66% reduction in energy consumption, and 55% reduction in water consumption over their competition. They also don’t use dye in the creation of their shirts, opting instead to presort the plastic and cotton by color.
