Tackle Much-Needed Community Projects
Boulder, CO – July 7, 2011 – Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) and The Timberland Company today announced that they will be teaming up to assist five local organizations for the OIA Rendezvous Timberland Service Project at the annual OIA Rendezvous® conference in Portland, OR on October 6, 2011. The organizations to benefit from the Rendezvous Timberland Service Project this year include: Forest Park Conservancy; Wapato Access Greenway; Portland Children’s Museum; Audubon Society of Portland and Portland Parks and Recreation. The premier executive leadership and learning conference for the outdoor industry, OIA Rendezvous draws hundreds of leaders from outdoor from companies around the country. After a full day and a half of conference sessions, a host of service efforts await leaders from companies such as Timberland, Patagonia, KEEN, Merrell, Leatherman, Mountain Hardwear, Yakima, JanSport and dozens of others. Through the Rendezvous Timberland Service Project, Rendezvous volunteers will tackle a wide range of hands-on projects, such as trail repair, bridge work, invasive weed removal, graveling and painting.
“At Timberland, community engagement and outdoor stewardship are at the heart of who we are as a brand and who we are as people,” said Mark Bryden, vice president and general manager of North America for The Timberland Company. “I know these values are shared by many in the outdoor industry, which is what makes the Rendezvous service project such a powerful event. We are honored to continue to be a part of this endeavor, and look forward to working with the community of Portland to help enhance some of their most treasured outdoor assets.”
One of the industry’s most recognized brands, and long known for its commitment to community and the environment, Timberland has sponsored the OIA Rendezvous Service Project for the past 13 years.
"The Rendezvous Timberland Service Project is a unique opportunity for the passionate leaders of the outdoor industry to give back to and energize the local outdoor-involved community,” commented Frank Hugelmeyer, president and CEO of Rendezvous conference creator Outdoor Industry Association. “The five local organizations represent the outdoor culture embraced by the city of Portland.
