BOULDER, CO -- Frank Hugelmeyer, President of Outdoor Industry Association (OIA), announced today the appointment of Amy Roberts as Director of Government Affairs, overseeing all government affairs activities including public policy, lobbying, and grassroots organizing. Currently OIA’s Legislative Affairs Associate for Recreation Policy, Amy will be filling the vacancy left by VP of Government Affairs, Myrna Johnson, who is stepping down after ten years to pursue a masters degree at the prestigious John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard.

Prior to joining OIA, Ms. Roberts directed an international government affairs program for Micron, Idaho's largest employer and the largest manufacturer of computer memory chips in the U.S. Amy developed from the ground up Micron's trade and environmental policy efforts at the state, federal and international levels. In addition, she was Micron's representative on the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) government affairs committee and the World Semiconductor Council that represent the $80 Billion technology field. Prior to Micron, Ms. Roberts was the Assistant Chief of Staff and Press Secretary for the former Republican Governor of Idaho, Philip Batt and was a key member of Governor Batt's successful campaign team that overcame a 25 point deficit in the polls to win election.

“Amy brings a great perspective on how OIA can utilize proven successes from Micron and SIA to improve our ten year program,” notes Hugelmeyer. “Her strong background shows that she has the necessary experience to successfully manage and drive the issues our members care about. Whether the issue is recreation funding, public lands protection or China trade, Amy has the skills and ethos required to best represent and reflect the OIA membership."

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to bring together my longtime passion for outdoor adventure and my government affairs experience to help ensure that the outdoor business community achieves our important public policy goals,” commented Roberts.

In addition to her professional experience, Ms. Roberts is an avid climber and mountaineer. Amy says one of the best years of her life was the year she took off to climb in Yosemite, Red Rocks in Nevada and the Verdun Gorge in France. She has also climbed in Nepal and spent time skiing in Chamonix, but says the best trip of all was a 3-day backpacking trip through Yosemite with her 13-year-old son Zach. Amy and her husband, Craig, live in Golden, Colorado and in addition to Zach have a six-month-old daughter named Molly.

Amy fully assumes her new role on May 1, 2006.
