BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. – May 5, 2011 – Octane Fitness, LLC (www.octanefitness.com) played a part in a recent unconventional marketing campaign from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota in which a 45-year old man lost 29 pounds, lowered his cholesterol 110 points and dropped his blood pressure by 10 points – all in 30 days.
The Human Do.ing project moved local resident Scott Jorgenson into a 20-by 30-foot glass apartment at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn., from March 18 to April 16 to showcase how an everyday person can improve his/her health with daily physical activity, nutritious meals and support from the community. Octane provided a Q47ci standing elliptical trainer with CROSS CiRCUIT to help Jorgenson achieve his impressive results.
As he started his 30-day mission, Jorgenson was 40-50 pounds overweight, had high cholesterol and could barely complete 10-minutes of cardiovascular exercise. After his CROSS CiRCUIT workout on Day 26, which combines cardio and strength training intervals, Jorgenson was proud of his progress.
“I cannot say enough nice things about this piece of equipment,” Jorgenson noted in his daily video blog. “Honestly, it is amazing – a true full-body workout and easy on the joints. You can do so much.”
Life in a Glass Box
During the month-long experience, Jorgenson took more than 500,000 steps – the equivalent of approximately 250 miles, and exercised for more than 1,500 minutes. He tried things such as Zumba, hip-hop dance, snorkeling, riding a stationary bike, and elliptical exercise – many based on activities that were selected by his Facebook fans and online followers in frequent votes. He worked with Blue Cross's chief prevention officer, Marc Manley, M.D., nutritionists and personal trainers.
“This program was a natural fit for us in our own backyard,” said Tim Porth, Octane's executive vice president of product development and marketing. “Our mission has always been to help people fuel their lives through elliptical exercise, and we are proud of what Scott accomplished, and how he has motivated many others to get fit.”
