BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. – March 15, 2012 – True to its history of progressive innovation, Octane Fitness, LLC (www.octanefitness.com) once again has expanded exercise options with its new LateralX (LX8000), which debuted this week at the 2012 International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association Convention and Trade Show.

A unique variation of the traditional elliptical cross trainer, the LateralX offers smooth, 3D motion that goes from a vertical elliptical stepping motion to an active side-to-side motion that adjusts electronically – for invigorating workouts that motivate, challenge and satisfy.

“With cardiovascular equipment, virtually everything moves in one plane, but we don't move that way in the real world,” said Tim Porth, executive vice president of product development and marketing at Octane. “The LateralX prepares people better for everyday life – whether that is training for a sport, improving balance or increasing energy.”

Combining low-impact elliptical and lateral motion, the machine's total-body workouts utilize movement in three planes (front to back, side to side and rotational) for customized, functional exercise that builds stamina, muscular endurance, coordination and balance.

Following a more vertical ellipse than conventional ellipticals, the LateralX offers 10 variable lateral width settings, and university research shows that LateralX users experience a 27% increase in caloric expenditure going from lateral width 1 to the maximum of lateral width 10. Also, studies indicate that the LateralX motion represents a 30% increase in hip abduction, hip adduction and knee extension over traditional ellipticals.

With 30 resistance levels and new workouts such as QuadPower, ThighToner and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), the LateralX helps everyone from athletes to beginning exercisers recruit more muscles, experience results and meet goals. Octane's popular CROSS CiRCUIT combined cardio and strength routines, X-Mode virtual personal trainer and interactive heart rate program deliver additional variety. And the self-powered LateralX is equipped with MultiGrip and Converging Path handlebars, digital contact heart rate sensors and a console fan.

The initial LateralX trainers to ship have been committed to Life Time Fitness, the Healthy Way of Life Company (www.lifetimefitness.com), which operates 95 destinations in 21 states and Canada.

“We appreciate Life Time's history of early involvement with us in product development, which has helped ensure that our products best meet the needs of its world-class facilities and members,” said Dennis Lee, president and CEO of Octane Fitness.

With this pre-order from Life Time, the LateralX will be available from Octane Fitness direct salespeople and authorized specialty fitness dealers beginning in September with a MSRP of $6,999.
