BOSTON August 12, 2008 – Boston-based New Balance announced today that they have signed on three outdoor athletic enthusiasts to join the brand's larger “Team New Balance.” Trail runners Kyle Skaggs, and Anton Krupicka and freestyle kayaker Ruth Gordon, have all signed on with New Balance.

“New Balance is excited to have Kyle, Tony, and Ruth join our family of athletes,” says Bryan Gothie, outdoor product manager at New Balance. “We are proud to support them as they strive to achieve their best.”

New Balance will provide each athlete with New Balance footwear, apparel, and accessories, as well as a small stipend that enables them to compete and train. The outdoor enthusiasts will help drive New Balance's product innovation through their involvement in the company's wear-test and product development process. As brand ambassadors, they will also showcase New Balance performance footwear and apparel products locally, nationally, and internationally in their various competitions.

Among their many accomplishments, a few recent and notable achievements include:

• Kyle Skaggs recently broke the Hardrock 100 Endurance Run course record by over three hours, winning by more than six hours. Kyle had the first sub-24 hour finish ever in this prestigious ultra race. Kyle also took home the blue ribbon in the 2007 GORE-TEX Trans-Rockies 110 mile 5-day Stage Race, setting a course record of 14:24. He earned first place in the 2008 Jemez Mountain Trail Run 50 mi., setting a course record of 8:08.

• Ruth Gordon is the 2007 Freestyle Kayaking World Champion and a three-time Canadian National Freestyle Champion.

• Anton Krupicka set a new course record of 4:03 at the Red Hot 50K in Moab, UT – tying fellow Team NB runner Skaggs – in February of this year. He is also a two-time winner of the Leadville 100.

“Being a member of Team New Balance ensures that there are no barriers between me and the trails on which I run,” says Kyle Skaggs. “New Balance provides me with the best trail products available and I'm excited to give back to the company in terms of product testing feedback and consulting.”

Team New Balance reinforces New Balance's focus on being a leader in fit and performance – they are the living, breathing, sweating, awe-inspiring embodiment of the New Balance brand.
