Pine, Colo. – Climbing pioneer Royal Robbins will tackle a classic Colorado mountain, the Third Flatiron, as a special fundraising event for the Continental Divide Trail Alliance on October 5. Robbins, a long time member of the CDTA's Board and Honorary Board will be climbing the Boulder mountain to raise awareness of the efforts to complete the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail that stretches from Canada to Mexico along the spine of the continent.

What: Royal Robbins Third Flatiron Climb

When: Friday, October 5 from 12 P.M. – 4 P.M.

Where: Third Flatiron, Boulder, Colorado. The half-mile access trail to the Third Flatiron begins near the Bluebell Shelter on Bluebell Road.

Five people will have the honor of climbing with Royal Robbins. With a gift of $1,000 an individual can participate or a company/organization can sponsor a climber. Donations will benefit the Continental Divide Trail Alliance, the leading nongovernmental partner in the completion, management and protection of the 3,100 mile-long Continental Divide Trail.

Longmont-based Bison Designs has committed to the first sponsorship of the climb. During the climb, Redwood Creek will offer a wine tasting and Backpacker's Pantry will provide food samples. The event is open to the public and all are invited to watch the climb and sample the food and wine. A brief book signing by Royal Robbins will follow the climb.

At 7 P.M., join Royal Robbins for a presentation at the newly-remodeled REI Boulder, 1789 28th Street, Boulder, Colorado. CDTA will be raffling off gear and Royal Robbins will be signing books after the presentation. The presentation will be held in the new community area in the store, which will serve as an ideal venue for future presentations and events. During the Grand Re-Opening from October 5-7, REI Boulder will be holding contests, giveaways and more.

____________

The Continental Divide Trail was established by Congress as a National Scenic Trail in 1978. When complete, the “King of Trails” will be the most significant trail system in the world. Stretching 3,100 miles along the backbone of America from Canada to Mexico, it accesses some of the most wild and scenic places left in the world while conserving the environment and promoting personal well being.

Since 1995, the Continental Divide Trail Alliance has played a central role toward the completion, management and protection of the Trail and it is the voice for unity in the diverse story of the Trail.
