Mountain Hardwear athletes Dawn Glanc and Kevin Mahoney have completed their attempt to summit Peak 8290, an unclimbed mountain in Alaska's Glacier Bay Fairweather Range. Dawn, Kevin and fellow mountaineers Matt Farmer and Bayard Russell came together as a team to climb this unnamed and unclimbed peak to bring awareness to the work of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Foundation based in Seattle, WA. This expedition serves as a metaphor for the efforts of the Hutchinson Center and the many other institutions around the world that work to eradicate a disease that affects millions of people and their families.

Dawn, Kevin and the rest of the team decided to complete the expedition before reaching the ultimate goal after 9 hours of battling unstable snow, ice and rock. Grouped together at their highest point, just 500 vertical feet from the summit, they called to end the Big Expedition for Cancer Research. Lee Hartwell, president and director of the Fred Hutchinson Center, congratulates the team for taking on the challenge, for getting so far in hazardous conditions and for placing safety first.
