For the second year in a row, Mammut alpine team athlete Josh Wharton has taken top honors at the Ouray Ice Festival invitational competition. The 15th annual festival and competition, held January 17th-10th 2010, is the premier international ice climbing gathering in the U.S., bringing climbers, gear manufacturers, outdoor enthusiasts and spectators together for a weekend celebration of the sport, with proceeds benefiting the Ouray Ice Park.

Wharton, known for his skills across multiple climbing disciplines including rock, ice, mixed and alpine climbing, took first by a wide margin, with 5 minutes and 18 seconds left to complete the route. The second nearest finisher had only two seconds to spare in completion, and only two other competitors completed the route at all. The competition drew an international pool of 23 athletes and hundreds of spectators from around the country.

“We're proud to have Josh representing Mammut across all climbing disciplines,” said Mike Welch, National Sales Manager for Mammut Sports Group USA. “He's a model team athlete who embodies not just a passion for the sport, but also a dedication to furthering the sport and exploring limits – with a really modest and pure approach to climbing. It's inspiring”.
